Zephyr Health bags $15M to advance analytics in life sciences

To help life sciences companies tap into new sources of data for insight into patient care and operations, an ambitious startup called Zephyr Health this week announced that it has snagged $15 million in funding from Kleiner Perkins Caufield & Byers (KPCB) and Jafco Ventures. Zephyr Health offers a cloud-based analytics platform designed to ingest and process large volumes of highly variable data, including structured, semi-structured and unstructured data.

Samsung enters home automation market with Smart Home at #CES2014

Samsung announced just prior to #CES2014 this week its entry into the home automation space with its Samsung Smart Home service. The Samsung Smart Home Service will enable smart TVs, home appliances, and smartphones to be connected and controlled via a single integrated platform.  The Smart Home product and logo debuted at #CES2014 this week and will roll out to consumers in the first half of 2014.

Bitcoin hits $1000, Zynga tests BTC for cow clicking, KryptoKit gets three big names

In our weekly installment of Bitcoin Weekly, Bitcoin Weekly 2014 January 8 the gaming community Zynga has partnered with BitPay to process bitcoins for virtual items and more Minecraft hosts have done the same. KryptoKit has gotten a number of big names in ownership roles for a Chrome plug-in bitcoin wallet; and AriseBitcoin has put up bulletin boards in San Francisco.

McAfee on Intel’s ‘Wasted opportunity’

Unless you’ve been living under a rock, somewhere online in the last few days you saw the news that Intel will be phasing out the McAfee security brand name while keeping the shield and product the same. The announcement came from #CES2014 this week and was carried throughout the world of tech news. The John McAfee saga of the last 20 years is an interesting one and IBM killing the brand name of a product they paid a staggering $7.7 billion for only adds to the theatrics.
