BlueChasm attempts to read enterprise minds with cognitive development

Two and a half years ago, IBM Corp. and long-time partner Mark III Systems Inc. started BlueChasm to develop digital solutions for enterprises. Andy Lin (pictured), vice president of strategy at Mark III Systems, said what they’ve learned so far is “the key to differentiating yourself in the digital world is being cognitive.”

In an interview at IBM InterConnect 2017 in Las Vegas, NV, Lin said BlueChasm is seeing this play out in the real world with its enterprise customers. He spoke to John Furrier (@furrier) and Dave Vellante (@dvellante), co-hosts of theCUBE, SiliconANGLE Media’s mobile live streaming studio. (*Disclosure below.)

BlueChasm did not have a major cognitive agenda out of the gate. The company learned the value of cognitive naturally, and now it incorporates machine learning or deep learning it into all of its platforms.

This reliance on artificial intelligence was driven by customers who see its ability to train and customize solutions for their own particular use cases, Lin explained.

Open-source rapid spin cycle

Honing in on real use cases has become integral to the way the company operates. “We basically design [BlueChasm] based on use cases that the ecosystem and our clients talk about,” Lin stated.

Those clients’ feedback can be incorporated rapidly thanks to open-source tools that have lowered ramp-up time for developers. Lin gave the example of the company’s VideoRecon platform, which analyzes video and audio content with IBM Watson and other tools.

“The prototype to VideoRecon was built over the course of a weekend by one of our developers,” he said.
