It’s true – PizzaHut is hiring what they are calling a Twintern-Pizza Hut Social Media Intern. The term is a bit misleading, as if you read the actual job description it’s not all about twitter, but that is what people seemed to be focused on at this time.
The intern will act as a fully integrated member of the PR team and will focus on new and emerging social media, such as Twitter, Facebook and others.
While this was already covered in the NY Times this morning and CNET this afternoon, I think the real angle here is how twitter is now surging into the mainstream with a take no prisoners attitude.
Just a little more than a month ago, who would have thought major American institutions [Company perhaps, but Pizza is an institution in many circles!] such as PizzaHut would be offering groundbreaking job opportunities to those twit-literate people this summer? Who would have thought just over a year ago, that twitter would be bigger than what the platform itself offers?
Twitter will go down in internet history as a milestone event, not just for the micro-blogging tool that it created, but for setting a new course for many entrepreneurs. Twitter itself may be retired in a few years to a has been service, but the services that will emerge from what was learned via the service will set new courses for may companies today and yet to be built.
All this from a very simple initial thought, or question about what you are doing. One thing I’m sure of is that it beats absolutely any summer job I ever had!
