WASHINGTON, June 22, 2009 – Last week I had two very rare opportunities. I was able to witness and document the Senate Commerce Committee as it held a confirmation hearing for Julius Genachowski (D) to be our next FCC Chairman, and Robert McDowell (R) to serve a full five-year term as commissioner.
I have nothing but high opinions and respect for both men, especially for Commissioner McDowell, who has always made himself accessible to me as a member of the telecommunications trade press whenever possible. Mr. Genachowski has an impressive resume, and certainly shares many of the Obama administration’s
progressive positions. He is a well qualified nominee.
That being said, all I really know about him is he has a ton of experience, and he wants a better FCC website.
The second opportunity I had was to sit down with my friend and talk about it for all of you to see. So instead of reading, how about you watch my colleague Fawn Johnson (of Dow Jones Newswires) and I deconstruct the hearing on an episode of C-SPAN’s "Communicators" which aired Saturday, and will air again tonight on C-SPAN2 at 8:00pm ET.
Or watch it here. And if you like it, tell your friends, and tell C-SPAN. And comment! What do you think?
