After rumors and leaked confirmations last week Palm put out a press release this morning confirming that the Pre will be released in Europe later this year and that carrier O2 will have rights to the device in the UK, Ireland and Germany and Movistar will get the device for Spain.
Of course no Palm news would be welcomed without the new favorite pass time of Palm Bashing.
Over the past couple weeks the favorite topics of the anti-Palm contingent out there is of course the continued whining of them not "opening up" their app store to developers and the speculation over how many Pre’s have been sold in relation to Apple’s 3GS sales figures.
Even though Palm has stated that the flood gates won’t be open to posting to the App Catalog until the September timeframe they have already been opening up their developer zone to the masses, we got our invite here at SA Labs a couple weeks ago and all interested. Developers just need to stop lagging and sign up – the invite will come shortly.
Overall it continues to be an Apple’s to Oranges comparison in the press world when covering anything Palm related. Whether it be some sort of deep-seated dislike for the firm or just continual suffering from Apple Fanboy Syndrome (AFS) most of the naysayers still continue to miss the point of what the webOS brings to the plate in this hyper paced mobile landscape.
TechCrunch is a good example of this. Even though I am a fan and follower of the site, many of the ‘naysayer’ links I provide are contained in their properties. They have an army of writers, so expect a difference of opinion in reporting from time to time. This is one topic though that still baffles me with their continual bashing of Palm while they announce the formation of a new company to sell a portable computing device that is entirely based on the browser.
More to come on my webOS and Pre experiences.
