I will continue to use Google Reader (and/or other RSS readers), and let the likes of Robert Scoble and others be my data miners and fish through a sea 10,000 contacts' microblog updates to find the few interesting stories for the day.

Nothing comes close to Friendfeed and Google Reader for being able to Search and easily locate posts and articles I've read and want to go back to. Twitter search is anemic compared to these. I looked at Robert's lists and they're nice, well-rounded echo chambers. He has a nice mix of voices in different categories, but truly, all I need to do is follow Scoble to know who Scoble follows, whether he reads or he tweets.

I view Twitter lists as a tool for my own time management rather than a tool to promote a specific group of people. I have long wanted a tool to isolate some key voices I always want to hear and some key terms I am continually interested in. Those aren't necessarily relevant to anyone but me.

However, I expect we'll hear a flurry of chatter about how completely epic it is to have lists and share lists on Twitter. I'm also grateful that all of the so-called 'social media experts' will have some new wisdom to share beyond the "mind your brand" madness I've seen recycled for the past couple of years.

Yeah, it's Friday, I'm cranky, and probably harder on Robert and the 'experts' than I should be, but lists are not exactly the newest thing on the planet.

Nice post. Reader is a webapp where what you get out of it is what you put into it so spending some time setting up organized groups of feeds can be really beneficial.

p.s. I process about 1000 posts a day with Google Reader, so performance matters for me.

Nice rebuttal. I like Google Reader even after three years. I need to see how many unread posts I have. I can get images in my reader. Twitter is a bit too brief for my tastes.

darjen - Reader on the iphone doesn't refresh if you click on the highlighted article when you return to it

I think if you look back a year ago, when he discovered Friendfeed, he was blogging about how much Twitter sucked then, too. It's more confusing than a Gartner hype cycle, it's the Scoble Cycle. :-p

In a year Scoble will be blogging about how much Twitter sucks, when he finds the "next big thing". I remember his raving how great Google Reader was a year and a half a go.
