I'd say I didn't talk about Rummble for the same reason I didn't talk abot GoWalla and other LBS services that I think are going to play catchup for a bit. Some are not as intuitive or as mature as Foursquare in my view. BUT that doesn't mean I don't see them as strong contenders. The day I wrote this I saw Foursqaure as the top contender with some solid opportunies to seal a lead that would be hard to beat. Today, not long later, I wonder if they're ready to do that. They seem slow to react to some things, and that won't hold them in good stead. We'll see how they play out.

Regardless of who wins this race, and the lead dog will shift and change many times, LBS is a white hot niche in the space.

Thanks Boris!

Interesting analysis - you are spot on when you mention the rise of LBS services, but neglect to mention a few other top contenders in the market!

Why not talk about 'Rummble'? (http://www.rummble.com). The gaming/mayoral battles are fun - for now.. but Foursquare's functionality definitely isn't as utility based OR as useful as other LBS apps like Rummble. If I'm lost somewhere and want to find a good restaurant nearby, Rummble's functionality locates me and suggests personally recommended places within 30 seconds! There is definitely a strong divide between both types of services, and if Foursquare doesn't find new ways to sustain its gaming-like activities, I personally think it may start losing its shiny appeal..
