imho: deleting all the kid's posts smells of a coverup. not naming the bribers who gave the kid a macbook is most definitely a coverup. makes me think they were friends of michael's. the notion that techcrunch operates in the same manner as, say, the new york times, is laughable. would the nytimes delete all stories by reporters whose reputations were in disrepute. in fact, they have not. that's one of the many differences between techcrunch and an actual news gathering operation.

anyway. funny that you got under arrington's skin. kudos for that.

meanwhile, the truth is far uglier: http://www.esarcasm.com/11346/exclusive-inside-the-techcrunch-child-labor-scandal/

cheers,

A take on board and agree with a many of your points on not seeing both sides of the story and that Daniel would appear to be getting a lynching.

However you killed it for me when you compared Daniel to Kathy Sierra; Sierra was a professional victim who milked a couple of attacks (a few overboard to be sure, but most deserved) for greater fame. In the process, she attempted to destroy the likes of good guys like Rageboy in the name of turning her victimhood into an application for sainthood.

I don't know the entire truth about Daniel, and I'd bet money there's more to this we aren't seeing. So far though, I think he's done the honorable thing is taking responsibility, even if he's not confessed to the core of the allegations. I was never a fan of his, and always wondered how the hell he got a gig at TC to begin with, but in disgrace he is so far showing grace and humility far beyond his young years. It takes a real man to admit you're wrong and apologize.

Funny thing is the only people that actually care about this crap, are you queer bloggers. No one else really gives a damn about FTC guidelines. The kid messed up, got his posts deleted as he deserved. End of story.

I'd agree - but watching the level of back-scratching going on with Arrington here is a bit infuriating to watch. Many of those who are coming out whole-heartedly against Daniel and for Michael should know better. They should know that there's a story to dig for, and not just accept things at face value.

Now that you mention that, Michael, I remember that post of yours. If I had remembered that when I wrote last night, I'd have tied it to this post.

Everyone has screwed up somehow, because no one is as pure as some in the Blogger Purity Patrol would love all to be. Given Daniel's experience thus far and after listening to what he told John last night, I have a hard time believing that things are exactly as Michael Arrington indicated in his post. Perhaps Daniel was telling us the whole truth, or perhaps the truth lies somewhere in the middle.

Either way, this was an extreme reaction to what occurred.
