HP Soon to Decide on a Replacement for Mark Hurd

Mark Hurd, HP’s ex-CEO, left his position in August this year in the midst of accusations of business misconduct after an internal investigation revealed an affair with a marketing contractor. As a result, HP has been in the position of determining a replacement. In the interim, Cathie Lesjak, HP’s CFO, has been acting CEO, but she’s been public about not desiring the job.

Buisnessweek has a source that gave them the short list of candidates being discussed in the current talks,

The short list includes Vyomesh Joshi, who runs HP’s printer business; Todd Bradley, head of the personal-computer division; Dave Donatelli, who runs the storage and server unit; Tom Hogan, executive vice president of enterprise sales and marketing; and Ann Livermore, executive vice president of the enterprise business, said the person, who asked not to be identified because the talks are private and a choice hasn’t been made.

We’ve seen one candidate in particular before, Dave Donatelli, shown here, who has gotten some attention for HP recently—as covered by SiliconANGLE—as his experience in the storage industry quickly made him the center of attention for cloud storage as the director of HP’s server and networking division. His position in the company, along with HP’s recent purchase of 3PAR, makes him a very interesting candidate.

The article also mentions that HP could, but will probably not consider, an outsider again. As Hurd was hired from NCR Corp and his predecessor, Carly Fiorina, was hired out of Lucent Technologies Inc. Both have left the company after overseeing market slumps for HP. Also, hiring internally, will help the company avoid legal battles involving non-competes and other laws that restrict executives from using knowledge acquired while working at another company.

This story is still developing, so be sure to check back when more news breaks, or HP announces their next CEO!
