Microsoft’s Xbox 360 had outsold every other competitor this past August. After embracing the new trend of this year’s gaming frenzy (i.e. motion-sensing) with Kinect, it’s long-time competitor is already breathing down its neck. Sony is introducing the already popular PlayStation Move that launches this Sunday in retail shops, but confusingly enough, already available on Amazon.
VentureBeat offers the breakdown in Kinect:
“Microsoft’s XBox 360 finally claimed the top sales spot for August, and now the company has high hopes for its Kinect motion-sensing controller for the console…Sony will get a bit of a jump on Microsoft by releasing its Playstation Move motion controller in the immediate future. Sony also earlier today said it expects to sell around 15 million Playstation 3 units by the end of its fiscal year in March 2011.”
The ever-growing functionality and convenience of both the Xbox and Playstation enable more and more options and constantly reach further into the cloud. As two motion-sensing gaming rivals go head to head, and game developers keep working hard on the production of increasingly engaging games, it seems that Black Friday will be accompanied by the usual hurling mass of game-hungry shoppers, even though the video game market seems to be declining by around %10. Will the new motion-driven games help turn that trend around?
With Microsoft planning on taking over larger and larger parts of the game console market and on implementing more hands-on (literally) ways to attract its demographics, Sony is not lagging behind, and delivers a fair amount of competition to its rival. This, for the benefit of all gamers out there, will keep a steady flow of newer, more hi-tech gaming standpoints.
