Bill Cook Shares Greenplum’s Vision Post EMC Acquisition

Greenplum is the 10-year old company in the ever-expanding and rocketing field of intelligence and data warehousing space that had been acquired by EMC last July.  Bill Cook, CEO of Greenplum discusses the company’s vision and the integration with EMC right here at SiliconANGLE.

“The whole premise of the company [since its foundation] was to their credit, that data warehousing and analytics was going to explode over time…” says Cook, and continues “if you think about Multicore technology, the storage technology that EMC and others bring into the equation etc, those things have been advancing at a tremendous pace over the last 20 years, and yet data warehousing and analytics is still this big batch environment… [what we believe is that] this will be the way businesses will start to do business. This won’t just be about data warehouse technology; this will be about how do I plug-in to the existing infrastructure to leverage a virtualized stack to allow data warehousing workloads to drive business value to customers.”

Virtualizing the analytic infrastructure for large enterprises is a vision that can prove to be a very realistic one for Greenplum in the near future, as enabling users to access (via self-service) the power to instantiate their database instances without affecting other users in anyway can be extremely beneficial in the right hands. The potential to access, change and manipulate data in a way that was never available or reachable in the past and which is set to be offered by Greenplum is almost sure to get jumped on by major enterprises.
