Skype has finally made its way to Android OS, following the Apple iOS launch earlier this year. The VoIP app will work over WiFi and 3G, for Android devices 2.1 and higher. This marks an important step in Skype’s growth and development, especially for mobile audiences that have been anxious for a complete, official and working version of Skype to become available in the Android Market.
Skype has been making a lot of moves lately, building towards an IPO. As part of Skype’s efforts to remain prevalent in today’s changing telecom business, Skype has set forth to integrate with as many tools as possible, with competitors like Fring filling in Skype’s gaps for certain applications, or taking advantage of Skype’s absence all together.
To this end, Skype has also teamed up with Facebook for deeper social networking integration, and has reportedly brought on Cisco exec Tony Bates as its new chief. From the board room to the product line, Skype is moving in the right direction.
