Splash Press Media and InfoGraphic Labs have come up with an InfoGraphic on The History of WordPress. As we all know, WordPress is basically a very easy to use open-source Content Management System, powered by PHP and SQL. About 12% of websites on the internet are powered by WordPress. It is also quite popular among bloggers. As a matter of fact, SiliconANGLE, too, is powered by WordPress.
An interesting fact in the development of WordPress is about the naming convention used for the different versions. Co-Founder Matt Mullengweg applies his passion for Jazz by naming each new version after a Jazz Legend. The time line shows the various stages of development, starting form the launch on 27th May 2003. The InfoGraphic also mentions the many available plug-ins, themes and features of WordPress.
The blogging platform has come a long way, and has stood the test of time as far as blogging platforms go. Recent developments from newer types of platforms, like Tumblr and Posterous, have been chipping away at WordPress’ market share, but haven’t managed any significant chunks after all these years. One of WordPress’ most recent accomplishments was the incorporation by Microsoft in lieu of Live Spaces. The blogging platform has also been aggressive on the mobile front, with apps for the iPhone, Android and BlackBerry (all regularly updated).
