Ex-Oracle President Finds New Home in Infor

Just six weeks after stepping down as Oracle co-president, Charles E. Phillips Jr. finds new home in Infor —a company that specializes in making business software.  Phillips assumed the chief executive position of the firm. “This is a rare opportunity to be the chief executive of an applications company with real scale,” Mr. Phillips said. “I am thrilled to be doing this.”

Phillips will be seen in action for Infor as their new leader this Monday, just a little over a month after leaving Oracle. Infor’s boasts a large middleware business that’s still flying low. The company sales (software sales) are pegged at more or less $2 billion annually; with concentration on mid-sized companies.

Phillips’ departure from Oracle also times near the entrance of Hewlett-Packard’s former chief executive Mark V. Hurd. Lately, Oracle has been undergoing some top level changes and Hurd’s arrival to the company is a testament of their desire to keep their top executives board tight and up for new challenges.

As Hurd fills up the position vacated by Phillips, HP acquired the services of SAP’s former chief, Leo Apotheker. It seems that everyone is gearing up and moving towards strengthening its leadership to stay competitive in the market. Infor was founded in 2002 and is based in Atlanta.

Since then, it has targeted smaller customers that were not services completely by the big players like SAP, Oracle and IBM. Infor focuses of software manufacturing and financial services. At present, Infor sells a broad range of products like customer relationship management, expense management, workforce management and supply chain management software. With Phillips leadership, Infor is about to instate and introduce a new market portfolio this coming January.
