What Are the Industry Trends Driving Mobile Ad Increases?

According to eMarketer, in 2011 the American mobile advertising expenditures will reach or even exceed $1,1 billion, mostly due to the changing trends that are taking place in the mobile industry. To be more specific, the most influential role is attributed to Apple and Google, both of them having redesigned mobile device models and advertising markets.

eMarketer states that since 2009, an increase of up to 79% has been registered to spending in mobile advertising, this being translated into $743,1 millions.

One possible explanation for this changing of the current trends is the consumers’ drive for wanting to buy locally. Although some consumers consider the ‘Made in USA’ statement to be outdated, others, especially consumers aged over 55, admit being influenced by the label of the product.

Harris Poll researchers, after having processed data collected from over 2,100 US adults, conclude that more than 60% of the American consumers (particularly older people) would sustain the commercialization of local products, whereas 35% wouldn’t have a preference at all.

When it comes down to advertisers, they should note that although a national pride label would be able to efficacious in terms of older consumers, the younger customers should not be overlooked as they would be impelled to buy by reasons such as price, benefit or packaging. The analysis of different demographic segments plays a major role in advertisement success.

Google is very much interested in hyperlocal trends and their monetization, as their Android platform and AdMob advertising network are really acting as drivers.  Two new ad features were released by Google today, for interactive video ads and local businesses marketing through mobile search.
