Amazon’s Kindle is now available as a Mobile App for Windows Phone 7. In addition to all the basic features of the PC version, the App version contains some bonus features as “personalized book recommendations on your Kindle app home screen and the ability to send a book suggestion to a friend from any book in your library without leaving the app.” The launch reiterated Kindle’s policy of “Buy Once, Read Everywhere”, stated as follows:
“When you buy a Kindle book, we make it easy for you to get your books on all of the devices you want to read on — your iPhone, iPad, Android-based device, PC, Mac, BlackBerry, and of course your Kindle, Kindle 3G and Kindle DX,” said Dorothy Nicholls, Director, Amazon Kindle. “Kindle for Windows Phone 7 extends our vision of ‘Buy Once, Read Everywhere.’ The app is optimized for the unique user interface of Windows Phone 7, and will include our Whispersync technology, so you always have your library with you and never lose your place in a book as you switch between devices.”
Amazon has been quick to offer kindle on just about every platform possible. This quick outreach strategy has helped them in capturing a large chunk of the market. Probably, this is the bottomline reason for it’s increasing profits. Amazon had high earnings last quarter, and are excited about the coming year.
The company really needs to focus on a well-thought up strategy and work hard to retain the market leader position, as the e-reader sector is not free of competition. Even Barnes & Noble, which is towards the bottom of the e-reader heap, might be a potent threat. This is so because of it’s strategy to latch onto android’s platform as a way to leap ahead. Barnes & Noble has just launched the nook color, in hopes to get a share in the holiday shopping season.
Twitter’s also hoping to stay ahead of mobile trends, announcing its official Windows 7 app today as well.
