MakingFun of MySpace’s Facelift

News Corp. is trying to catch up with the global trend over social gaming. With notably a reserved budget, the company that owns FOX and MySpace incorporated Making Fun in their gaming strategy. This move comes half year after News Corp. acquired Irata Labs for developing a platform designed to support Facebook and MySpace, and Apple and Android gaming. The responsibility of the game on the most used platforms will be possible at the beginning of the next year.

Sean Ryan, who is in charge with the game business didn’t make public the acquisition price. It is considered that Making Fun will be made popular with a small team, which includes the founders partners – John Welch and Lee Crawford.

News Corp. is forced to act proactively as the social gaming is becoming more and more popular. Just one to mention: the Facebook’s launch of Facebook Credits earlier last month. Their successful release broadened the number of users, as predicted. This gaming tool built in order to provide an exchange platform to distribute and monetize social games captured the attention of the classic online games users, such as FarmVille or Bejeweled.

In the same sense of keeping the pace with the top social networks – Facebook and Twitter – MySpace also recently relaunched their website, incorporating several needed updates and restructuring for brands. Hopefully these improvements will lead MySpace to raise the number of users, although it still seems to be facing an ill-fated demise.  This acquisition isn’t as high-profile as many of the others we’ve seen this year, particularly from Google, with key investments from Facebook and even Intel.
