After four years of good and bad as the head of PR department of Facebook, Brandee Barker quits her position for starting communications consultancy.
In an exclusive from AllThingsD, the Facebook’s veteran declared that before working for Facebook she didn’t realize the prospective development that social media will have in the later years “I had no idea when I took the job that it would be like that”. To be remembered, she was the 120th employee of Facebook at that historical time, despite the incredible enlargement of the company that now counts 1,500 employees.
During the four year of service for Facebook’ PR, Bandee Barker encountered many unspecific situations (thee launch of Facebook platform, leaking of information from Facebook’s database) which were managed faultlessly, considering the increasing popularity that social media has nowadays, which is translated into 500 million users in comparison to 7 million at the beginnings.
Regarding Barker’s departure, Facebook says “We can confirm Brandee is leaving Facebook to start a communications consulting business focused on early stage tech companies. We are grateful for her dedication and the company has benefited greatly from her contributions. We suspect Brandee’s future clients will also value her talents and experience and we wish her much success with her new venture.”
During the maternity leave that Brandee took recently, she evaluated her professional position and decided to devote her further years to start-ups consultancies, as she enjoys more this stage of a company’s development “I had a pretty deep evaluation when I was away from the company that what I am good at and what I like is working with early-stage companies and the teams, at this point in my career, that’s what I want to do.”
Facebook’s ongoing issues with privacy, battles against Google and other debacles will have to be carefully managed by someone else, starting December 11.
