Google WiFi, Chrome Free for Holiday Airline Travel: Delta, Virgin & AirTran

The Google Chrome browser team today announced that it has partnered with air companies AirTran, Delta and Virgin America in providing free Gogo In-flight Internet access to these air companies’ 700 planes and their estimated 15 million passengers this holiday season, starting November 20, 2010 till January 2, 2011.

“We are constantly working to help provide a better web experience to users around the world,” said Sundar Pichai, Vice President of Product Management at Google. “Whether it be building a better browser with Chrome or bringing free Wi-Fi to air travelers this holiday season, we are constantly innovating to ensure users’ access to the web is fast, simple and seamless.”

This is not the first time Google has done such partnership, for it has already partnered with Virgin America and 50 airports last year, providing both on-ground and air wi-fi internet access for free. This year marks the second year of the promo.

It’s a big marketing push. Google have to get their apps in front of as many people as possible, in as many places as possible. Wifi on airplanes is a huge trend right now – it gives companies a leading edge. As Microsoft readies its marketing campaign for its various mobile and gaming products in the coming year, Google must find more ways to interface its advertising directly to consumers as well.
