The PlaySpan Plan for Digital Goods

A global leader in monetization solutions, PlaySpan announced a partnership with game developer Square Enix, whose products include Final Fantasy, Dragon Quest and Tomb Raider. PlaySpan’s UltimatePay will process payments for several Square Enix products including the latest from the Final Fantasy Franchise, Final Fantasy XVI.

Though Square Enix already has existing payment methods available, it aims to stretch global reach and conversion. This can be made possible with PlaySpan’s UltimatePay delivery of  “Monetization on Demand” via Developer Console and 85 international payments including PayPal and Ultimate Game Card.

“PlaySpan has the largest and most experienced team of digital goods monetization professionals in the gaming industry,” said Karl Mehta, Founder & CEO of PlaySpan. “By partnering with PlaySpan, Square Enix can focus on enhancing the player experience of FINAL FANTASY XIV and its other online content.”

With PlaySpan moving deeper into digital goods, the industry is validated and restructured around another platform system.  PlaySpan is one of many companies intersted in the gaming sector especially, which has become a particularly ripe field for digital goods.  It’s a way to experiment with a few different methods, seeing which work best.

Several industries are looking for ways into mobile payments, mostly the game industry including Openfeint which Intel invested in, also carriers like Sprint and and financial institutions like Paypal.  This all points to the development of a massive industry shift that is distinctly personal and mobile.  As more industries overlap with digital goods offerings, we’ll also see a great deal more standardization and financial offerings as a service, directly interfacing and impacting consumers and their behavior.
