As announced at TechEd Europe 2010 and also covered here, EMC is launching a new infrastructure aimed to shorten private cloud applications’ deployment time utilizing MS virtualization technologies including System Center and Windows Server 2008 Hyper-V.
“By using technologies from EMC and Microsoft, customers can increase control and customization, and scale efficiently to provide the agility required to deploy more projects to the cloud.”
As quoted from Dai Vu, director of solutions marketing in the Windows Server and Cloud division at Microsoft, increased scalability and decreased deployment time can prove to be a very precious commodity for some, as these have the capacity to deflect a lot of attention to the EMC Symmetrix VMAX, Windows Server R2 and Microsoft Hyper-V. virtualized infrastructure.
In context to Hyper-V’s development, Microsoft’s recently updated its technology, as the company reigns in a number of cloud-related partnerships with Dell, Fujitsu, Hitachi, HP, IBM and NEC. This is aimed at creating new private IaaS cloud platforms. Furthermore, EMC’s been ramping up in its own right, having acquired storage solutions provider Isilon this morning for a whopping $2 billion.
On the tail of its fresh acquisition, EMC also became the first VMware Ready content management-specializing enterprise only 4 days ago, adding to the list of cloud leaders – namely VMware –taking a partnering approach as well. In light of the three huge steps EMC has taken in the last few days it’s becoming fairly clear they have big plans for the future, as these are most definitely not focused on staying minimalistic.
