Goodies for Apple Fans: The Beatles and Oprah Magazine

The wait is finally over, as Apple has managed to strike a deal for the Beatles, and its record company EMI. This music will be sold on Apple iTunes store, solidifying its place as the largest music retailer in United States. This was in fact the climax of highly anticipated news yesterday, and the news has finally been unveiled.

Taking a deeper look into the deal, we found that the iTunes customers will firstly be able to to buy “Please Please Me,” “Hey Jude” or “A Day in the Life” online. It seems that they will even be available as individual tracks, to the delight of fans young and old.  The Beatles have remained a blockbuster band for four decades, with over 177 million copies sold in United Stated alone. Therefore, this deal is going to be an ultimate reward for Apple as it pushes to revolutionize the way we purchase, store, share and consume music.

Before the announcement of Beatles on iTunes, Apple teased its fans by displaying some mysterious messages on its website. This included “exciting announcement from iTunes” — one “that you’ll never forget,” no less. Anyhow, they people did their best to unveil the surprise in a really mysterious way.

Apple CEO Steve Jobs is a great fan of The Beatles himself, as he tried to crack the deal with EMI and Beatles earlier, but could not succeed due to several longstanding issues with the record company.

“Anybody that hasn’t managed to come up with a digitized version of the Beatles’ song by now never liked the Beatles,” said John Perry Barlow, a former lyricist for the Grateful Dead and the co-founder of the Electronic Frontier Foundation, an online civil liberties organization. “That music is timeless. It’s probably some of the most remarkable songwriting created by humans and there are new generations coming along that don’t already know these songs. Steve Jobs has finally become the dominant Apple,” he added.

Besides the new rock tunes in the iTunes App Store, some other great news awaits Apple iPad users. Yes, it’s the Oprah Winfrey Magazine App; Powered by Hearst, this iPad application sells for $3.99 per issue download, which is comparatively less than the print version. The ads placement in this app are kept limited and uncluttered, which is a theme we’re seeing from several large publications for their early iPad releases.  Although other tablet versions of this app may come out soon, there’s no word on other device releases.
