Blekko Makes Its Presence Felt, Partners with DuckDuckGo
Search engine startup Blekko has announced its first partner with DuckDuckGo. Blekko has made it clear that they are not trying to go mainstream in order to try and beat search giant and industustry-setting Google. This was made clear in an interview more than a year ago of Blekko’s head, where he stated that while others expect they will suffer another Google killer jinx, they are indeed going the opposite direction. What the new player aims is to fight web spam in search results using human curation. They haven’t gotten much in the way of high marks yet, but Blekko may achieve relevance and traction through partnership growth.
Search results via DuckDuckGo will be now be powered by Blekko. Categories covered include health, colleges, autos, personal finance, lyrics, recipes and hotels. Users will be able to get search results that are not only according to relevance (which is the practice now), but also the most recent updates according to the date and time the article or object was posted.
Rich Skrenta, Chief Executive of Blekko said in an interview: “Both our companies share the same mission of eliminating spam from search so that users get information from the best and most relevant sources on the Web.”
On the other end is a statement released by DuckDuckGo’s Gabriel Weinberg saying, “DuckDuckGo’s focus is pointing users to the most relevant information as quickly as possible. Blekko has dramatically improved the quality of search results in 7 important categories. We’re thrilled to direct our users to this set of high quality results. We look forward to adding the existing autofired slashtag results to our service and adding more in the near future as Blekko’s human editors create them.”
This alliance hopefully will be a better ideal compared to the last, much-hyped release from Blekko’s search engine, which was not able to quite live up to its costly introduction and expectations.
