LG Eyes Employee-Owned Mobile Phones, Partners with VMware Virtualization Platform

South Korean based LG Electronics has recently announced their partnership with VMware to service enterprises of various sizes to strengthen security and management of confidential trade information. The end user technology of VMware will support LG’s goal to solidify its stance within the business sector. The mobile phone company is also gearing up to provide more options to its primary consumers and enterprise customers and clients.

The offering will be available for Androids initially, with plans for expansion to other mobile platforms.  It’s an important step in the right direction, as enterprise level companies need ways to provide more mobile access to employees, but in a secure manner.  It’s a big concern for the enterprise, as cloud-based services hold a great deal of promise, but have yet to reach the standards established through web portals.

Ki S. Kim, Vice President of Global Enterprise Solutions at LG Electronics Mobile Communications Company emphasizes their current target market and explains why LG chose to explore opportunities with VMware.  “The enterprise and SMB markets are key areas of focus for LG. Our partnership with VMware is part of LG’s global strategy to develop smart mobile devices for businesses.

“Enterprise IT organizations are looking for a way to embrace the growing trend of employee-owned mobile devices at work, while still maintaining control over their corporate data. VMware’s industry leadership provides a platform for LG to extend its presence in enterprises and deliver compelling solutions that address the challenges raised by the convergence of IT and mobile communications.”

LG will utilize VMware to securely isolate a personal account from that of work. This will enable people to carry a single mobile phone where he or she can access both the personal and professional accounts. Admit it, carrying two phones wherever you go is quite a pain. This will hopefully be addressed by the outcome of LG and VMware partnership.

It seems like VMware is boosting its network by collaborating with mobile service providers. The company recently joined forces with Google for cloud compatibility. This is actually another way VWMware is supporting Google platforms. VMware has been very active in intruding the mobile phone market. In a report seen in SiliconAngle, VMware made cloud management mobile via the iPad. It is also interesting to see that business of different sorts, especially those that has something to do with data security, storage and retrieval, have been very active with upgrades. Global Leader Juniper Networks has also entered the picture as Malware attacks reached 250% growth.
