Bonobos Lures Machismo Shopping, Secures $18.5M Funding

One of the fastest growing men’s online retail shopping website, Bonobos has augmented their funds via financial aid from Lightspeed Venture and Accel Partners. To represent both investing companies, Jeremy Liew of Lightspeed and Sameer Gandhi of Accel will both be joining the Bonobos board. It was reported that the aid reaches $18.5 million. Funding will be utilized to drive the growth of the burgeoning fashion e-tailer.

Andy Dunn, Founder and CEO of Bonobos,  was thrilled by this development and shared with the media how the two leaders from Lighstpeed and Accel affect the growth of the business. She said, “We’re very proud to announce our funding round with investments from Lightspeed and Accel. With Lightspeed, we were especially impressed with Jeremy’s knowledge and understanding of the potential for online men’s retail to take off. He even wore our very own turquoise cords to our first meeting, which was the venture capital equivalent of ‘you had me at hello.’ Sameer brings great experience from the board of Diapers.com, and Accel has a powerhouse portfolio in consumer technology across Facebook, ModCloth, Groupon, and Etsy. We’re thrilled to add Sameer and his partners’ passion and forward-thinking in technology-enabled merchandising. We couldn’t ask for more ideal partners.”

Just when everyone thinks that online shopping was chiefly crafted for the shopaholic goddesses, men’s online shopping is starting to take off, and this funding is evidence of the market’s potential and confidence by institutions in this niche. To further support that manly pride are now being lured into the online shopping arena, Gilt Groupe has recently launched a website dedicated to sell men’s apparel, accessories, athletic gear, gadgets and more. Gilt used to be just focused on women’s retail. But, they have slowly penetrated and quite successfully introduced this online fashion retail to men and other verticals.
