Video Demos in the Android Market, Motorola Bets on Tablets

AppsFire, the developers of a marketing platform for mobile apps, has uncovered video previews for the Android Market. By updating their Market API to support video previews, they allow users to search and utilize the app store more easily.  Now apps can be accompanied by uploaded video demonstrations, texts and photos.

The video demos aim to improve the customer service experience is greatly improved as users now can ‘taste’ the product at a certain level. Until now, most users that wanted to watch app demos would search among YouTube’s videos, but at present this feature is implemented on the Market also.

Foregoing developments on the Android Market during December have been referred to by Eric Chu, Google’s Android Developer Ecosystem chief. Previously, he had stated that during December a new user interface, new categories, improved navigation, app content ratings, a change to the refund window and additional device targeting capabilities were some of the intended improvements to come.

Such Android updates are attracting tablet manufacturers, including the Android-faithful Motorola, following Samsung’s launch of Galaxy Tab using the Android operating system. During the first part of January 2011, Motorola is launching its tablet using the Android 3.0 OS (Honeycomb). This product is expected to run on Verizon’s LTE (4G) network, meaning wireless internet connections at the quality of land-based cable modems or fiber optic technology and also offering high-end multimedia services.

Speculations on the name of the new Motorola tablet indicate ‘XOOM’ to be the upcoming tablet’s title, judging by Motorola’s trademark filings for the word ‘XOOM’ in the US, Canada, Europe, Australia and New Zealand.
