Juniper Networks Updates Microsoft Windows Security, Teams with Terra

The Microsoft security bulletin summary for January 2011 reveals two vulnerabilities with a severity rating of critical, respectively important. The first vulnerability regards the Microsoft Data Access components that could allow remote code execution if users view a specially crafted Web page and the most affected would be users who operate with administrative user rights. The latter vulnerability regards the Windows Backup Manager that could allow remote code execution if a user opens a legitimate Windows Backup Manager file that is located in the same network directory as a specially crafted library file.

As a response to these two issues in Microsoft Windows, Jupiter Networks announced today their Intrusion Detection and Prevention (IDP) security systems and Integrated SecurityGateway (ISG) firewall/virtual private network (VPN) systems with IDP offer.

Another important announcement made today by Juniper Networks refers to the collaboration with Terra, a leading Brazilian online media provider, for the enabling of secure and remote access for employees to corporate systems and sensitive data from devices such as smartphones, iPads and so on. The measure was imperative for Terra employees, with a notable increase in communication and productivity.

“By deploying Junos Pulse, Terra extends network access to a variety of users including mobile and remote employees, helps increase their productivity, all the while strengthening uniform corporate-wide security policies and maintaining their existing internal server infrastructure,” said Sanjay Beri, vice president and general manager, Access and Acceleration Business Unit, Service Layer Technologies Business Group at Juniper Networks.

“Junos Pulse requires no changes to internal servers and minimal ongoing maintenance while delivering cross-platform and, device support, all of which represent significant savings over more traditional remote access solutions.”

Juniper’s been readily building up its partnership base, with aims to leverage its cloud position in this manner.  The strategy has paid off for Juniper Networks, with the company recently being recognized as one of the best vendors in the industry.  Some smart acquisitions, most notably the Trapeze deal, are adding to Juniper’s expansion, which has also resulted in some new offices sprinkled across the U.S.
