EMC Launches 41 New Products at Big Data Event

Big news from EMC today, as they launch a record-breaking 41 new products at their event, held this week in New York City (we’re there covering every angle, so stay tuned for continuous updates as the day goes on–in fact, check our photo flip book here). The new product line is EMC’s aim to remain relevant in the cloud computing industry, addressing the continuously changing needs for data storage, movement and management.

EMC’s got big plans for this year, and today’s event is only the tip of the iceberg.  As blogger Louis Gray puts it, “EMC is out for blood. 40+ new storage products in one day. They’re not messing around.”

One of the big draws this morning was the VNXe line, designed for small- to medium-sized businesses.  It’s cost-efficient, with mobile interfacing ready for tablet (iPad) use, among other things.  Products in the VNXe family are meant to be easier to use, with several features that make managing a system a simplified and comprehensive task.  Efforts towards centralized management systems, especially those that can be parsed out to mobile devices, are part of a growing trend right now, and EMC’s not looking to be left out on this emerging area of customer demand.

You may recall EMC’s acquisition of Data Domain, a massive $2.1 billion deal.  Well, we’re finally seeing some levels of integration, with its latest version of Atmos software, which is based on Isilon technology, another key acquisition from EMC in the past year.  Other product launches include the VMAX box, now doubled in speed, with an increased storage capacity for processing big data.  An important upgrade for VMAX is the Flash memory, which pushes these faster speeds and gets rid of Fibre Channel interconnects.

It’s also important to note EMC’s new versions of Data Domain, their deduplication storage system, now 7x faster than “the competition.”  Along with this is the new Data Domain Archiver system, looking to redefine how enterprises backup, organize and restore data.  With these new products in particular, EMC’s breaking records in terms of speed, capacity and efficiency.  Leave it to this cloud behemoth to create a massive event just to debut the end result of everything it’s been working on in the past year.

Below is a video from EMC’s Big Data event, where we chat with Marco Pacelli about, what else? Big data.  Here the CEO of ClickFox discusses what big data means for his company, a partner of EMC, and its customers.  Pacelli later spoke on EMC’s Customers Panel at the event.
