Freelancer.com Expands, Outsourcing on the Rise

Outsourcing marketplace Freelancer.com announced it has acquired another domain name, Freelancer.de, one of Germany’s top freelancing marketplaces. The sum of the acquisition was not disclosed, but this deal presents yet another landmark in Freelancer.com’s accelerating global expansion.

“We are pleased to announce the acquisition of Freelancer.de, one of the top German freelancing sites,” said Matt Barrie, Chief Executive of Freelancer.com. “We plan on shortly bringing across its users to our platform in ein augenblick, so they can gain the full benefit of the world’s deepest and most active outsourcing marketplace.”

Another freelancing marketplace that had seen immense growth lately is oDesk.  The company reports 102 percent growth over the past year, which also expects similar growth figures in the coming year. New trends around communication, including Android and social media in particular, have prompted even more growth, with Android leading at 680%. The San Francisco Business Journal discussed the industry:

“As the Internet has gotten more sophisticated and bandwidth has increased, other companies are also taking advantage of different types of video connections with remote teams or workers. Some businesses with teams in different places now have always on video connections between them called ‘wormholes.’”

Web-based employment growth figures rise high above employment growth, but these two can coincide as more and more companies demonstrate. NJ-based Internet marketing services company CMDS recently hired Christina Pizzolato, Brittany Thiel and Jen Aronowitz, with a project manager position still up for grabs.  In fact, a recent Nielson reports consumer confidence fell in 25 out of 52 countries in Q4 2010, a figure directly affected by job loss and inflation. However, while consumer optimism decreases, online employment growth and notably demand increases.

SiliconANGLE gave its own take on this industry, and particularly on Mavenlink. Our News Editor Kristen Nicole conducted an interview with the “human cloud” company’s CEO Ray Grainger, and we discussed Mavenlink’s release of a new custom branding feature here.  Mavenlink brings an entirely new approach to tapping into a human network, extending a high-end marketplace for managing jobs remotely.
