iPad 2 Facing Stiff Competition, Toshiba and Amazon Throw in their Hats

A few short days after the launch of the iPad 2, Toshiba has also stepped forward claiming that their upcoming Android 3.0 Honeycomb Tablet will be much better.  The tablet is still unnamed, runs Android 3.0 Honeycomb, with a 10.1-inch display and a resolution of 1,280×800 pixel, which is of course an upgrade from Apple’s tablet.

“We are confident that we can match Apple pricing for their new iPad 2 while delivering a device that is richer in features,” he says. “We believe that our device is superior to the Apple device, it may be a little heavier (773g) but it does have a lot of features that the iPad 2 does not have,” said Toshiba’s Rob Wilkinson on Aussie site Smarthouse.

Some of the other features of this tablet include dual-core Nvidia Tegra 2 processor, built-in HDMI output, a 2-megapixel front & 5-megapixel rear camera, USB and mini-USB ports, SD card slot and a removable battery. While the specifications are of course superior, let’s just see what users say about the experience.

Earlier today, Forrester gave a report saying that the iPad 2’s biggest challenger is actually the Amazon tablet, when it decides to enter the arena. Forrester has attributed this due to the  highcost of the other tablets like Motorola Xoom, and they also can’t match with the Apple Store’s retail experience. On the other hand, Amazon is lucky in terms of retail sales and can better compete with the iPad both in terms of price and retail advantage. A report by the firm suggested that around 28% customers will prefer to buy a tablet from Amazon, while only 11 percent would rather buy one from a mobile carrier.

The launch of the iPad 2 has also affected the launch of some rumored tablet PCs, though leading manufacturers like HP have a long road ahead. What are your thoughts?  Share them in the comment thread below.
