Nordic Region Holds Summer of Startups
This summer, startups in the Nordic region will have something to be busy with. The Aalto Entrepreneurship Society is holding Summer of Startups on June 6th, at the Aalto Venture Garage. It will be an episode filled with fun, hard work, keynotes, tech mavens and other remarkable things. Out of the 74 teams that aspired to present during the event’s pitch, only 11 of them were picked to compete amongst each other. Whether or not this batch will be more awesome than last year’s is something that we’ll have to find out during the event. One of the event’s highlights is the presence of Rovio’s Mighty Eagle, Peter Vesterbacka.
The event will start with a foreword to be delivered by Antti Ylimutka and Mikko Kuusi, co-organizer of Summer of Startups and President of Aalto Entreneurship Society respectively, and will be followed by the keynote, given by Rovio’s Peter Vesterbacka. The 11 teams will then present their products with a 2-minute flash pitch.
After the pitches, Panu Mustonen, previously a Mobile Strategist at Satama Interactive, evangelist at Neogames co-founder and CEO at Springtoys, and currently, Senior Bus Dev Manager, Elisa; and Micki Honkavaara, previous the ex-president of Hybrid and Executive of VP Saraxa Media, and currently CEO at nVidia Finland, will be sharing their success stories.
Startup events are important for developers, designers and entrepreneurs to share their ideas, particularly the virtuosos and experienced to impart their business knowledge and strategies to those who aspire to make it big time. Moreover, startups often have ingenius ideas, which makes them the targets for acquisition by huge companies (such as Google), always on the lookout for innovation and drive.
There’s a good deal of startup events all over the globe. This includes another Nordic event, Startup Weekend, gathering entrepreneurial-minded developers, designers and business master-minds to share ideas, form teams, build products and launch startups, all in 54 hours. Recently, the affair was expanded its scope to the mobile sector, launching Mobile Copenhagen Startup Weekend, which takes place on June 24 to June 26 this year. According to Alex Farcet, the “inspiration for the event’s theme came after Nokia decided to shut down their product development center in Copenhagen, making 700 engineers jobless. ‘That constitutes a major talent pool which has to be repositioned to other jobs or, better yet, encouraged to become entrepreneurs’’.
From the mobile sector, let’s jump into getting environment friendly with First green Breakfast Club, an event dedicated to Green Startups. It is organized by Third Rail Ventures and will take place on June 13, 2011. There’s also Techcrunch Disrupt which commenced yesterday, giving space to startups with Startup Battlefield.
