Futuremark Games Studio Piles On Cats, Cockpits, and UFOs for Electronic Entertainment Expo

futuremark For those hooked into the vibe of the gaming industry a big event is just around the corner: E3 or the Electronic Entertainment Expo. At this huge event a multitude of industry giants find their way onto the stage and display their wares to anxious audiences full of both the cynical and the sycophantic.

Up-and-comer Finnish company, Futuremark Games Studio—best known for their compelling, zero-g FPS shooter Shattered Horizon—are getting their hype engines running early for E3 and have released a teaser video that showcases a series of new games.

“In true teaser spirit, we are not revealing any further details today: no titles, genres, or release dates,” the developer said. “If you like to categorise your news and trailers, however, you can tag this under PC, XBLA and iOS. We will leave it to your readers to guess which platforms apply to each game (there are only 343 possible combinations).”

As a video game, Shattered Horizon portrayed an extremely intense graphics engine with some surprisingly interesting physics elements to portray modern warfare in zero-g. The reception of the game seemed somewhat mediocre in the media—with most scores relegated to 7.5 of 10—but it still captured my attention when it first came out.

Taking in their space-dogfight footage in the teaser, it appears that Futuremark may have done it again. As a huge fan of space fighter sims, I hope that they’ll be able to escape from the staid status-quo of the genre and deliver something truly enchanting. Even if they can’t do that, however, it certainly looks good in the teaser.
