The Best of EMC World 2011

IT conferences and trade shows are the pulse of the industry. A single event determines the condition of the market, as well as identifies the factors that will impact its future. The recently-held EMC World 2011 showed that the IT industry is in fine fettle, and is likely to show things that will wow us in the future. It had 500 educational sessions, 100 hands-on labs and exhibits from a hundred leading IT companies and was attended by more than 10,000 people. However, nothing is without challenges, for the sweetest successes come from overcoming the biggest of obstacles.

EMC World 2011 was held in Las Vegas, and nothing seemed to suit the conference better than the entertainment capital of the world. Las Vegas managed to handle a crowd of over 10,000 and the event was filled with keynotes, breakout sessions, solutions, training and parties. Despite all the fun stuff, EMC managed to pull off the real purpose of the conference, and that is to discuss the future of IT with the theme “Cloud Meets Big Data.”

SiliconANGLE’s theCube was there covering the event live and holding interviews with IT leaders, anchored by SiliconANGLE founder John Furrier and Wikibon CEO Dave Vellante.  Here’s a compilation of the video interviews listed on Wikibon.org.

The event ended up becoming a mashup of the first ever Data Scientist Summit with Big Data Storage Summit and CIO Summit where it gathered executives, experts, technologies and customers alike, aiming to advance IT by sharing ideas and technologies. Also, here’s an infographic detailing SMBs journey to the cloud which is one of the emphasis during the event.

“Cloud and Big Data are two of the most disruptive technologies to come along in a long time and are trends affecting everyone who works in IT. EMC World is focused on helping attendees accelerate their journey to the cloud and use it to take advantage of the Big Data opportunity – while at the same time accelerating their careers. This year, we’re making it easier than ever for anyone to take advantage of the wealth of knowledge being shared at this conference,” said Jeremy Burton, EMC’s Chief Marketing Officer.
