Brightcove the Latest to Join Gluster’s Customer Base

Open-source scale-out storage solutions vendor Gluster has landed a big customer – Brightcove. The cloud content distribution provider will use Gluster’s platform to power its Video Cloud offering used by media companies, businesses, and organizations in over 50 different countries. Video Cloud is leveraged for video streaming, online adverting and so on.

“Gluster is delivering the limitless scalability and high availability Brightcove needs to meet its extensive customer demands at a price that is appealing to the company’s business model,” said AB Periasamy, co-Founder and CTO of Gluster.

The fact that Gluster’s storage platform is open-source means that in addition to greater cost efficiency, it also blocks out vendor lock-in. About two months ago the company announced its latest update in this area – the addition of support for two new services, KVM and Xen.

And the fact that it’s expanding its support base to include more and more services may be a good approach to growing its client base, which is clearly expanding. Prior to today’s announcement, Gluster revealed that Swedish web host City Network Hosting released Sweden’s first IaaS platform out of a 15-month beta. City Cloud as it’s called is built on top of Gluster’s storage platform.

Brightcove also had some developments of its own recently. It announced a partnership with Automatic Sync a few days ago, integrating the latter’s CaptionSync tech to Video Cloud. This enables joint customers to add time-coded, synchronized captions to videos, and also provides complete file transfer automation.

Brightcove is one of the biggest players in its field, but it is facing a good share of competiton from other companies. YUDU, for example, has added iPad support for its Enterprise License App. The app lets customers publish materials into a container app through which they can distribute files in a secured environment.
