Check-in with Foursquare Rocky Style. Greasy Fast Lightning Speed!

Foursquare NEWLocation based services don’t always accomodate an audience that’s in a hurry all the time.  If you’re about to walk through a curtain at a main event,  there’s no time to wait for a phone to finish checking you in.   Fourquare updated it’s iPhone app with faster check-ins in celebration of reaching 10 million users.

For those of you in a rush, the faster check-ins will really save you time. Tap ‘Check In,’ and the list of nearby places should load much much faster. We’ve been testing it internally for a bit, and everyone has been loving it.

We did a bit of pruning, too: with this release, we’re retiring the stand-alone shout button. Since foursquare is ultimately location-based, we decided that shouts should always be attached to a check-in. From now on, if you want to shout, just enter your text when you’re checking in someplace (millions of you do, every day). Though a bunch of us here at HQ were also bummed about the loss, we found it lays the groundwork for better things in the future.

Shout button users can fuss now, but Foursquare has a valid point.  The noise generated from a venue is centered on the location itself, rather than what the person shouted.  Effective advertising that businesses don’t have to pay for.
