Paris Hilton Taps GroupMe for Private Affairs.

Paris Hilton TextingParis Hilton strikes again,  but in the mobile space instead.  This could be an endeavor to start fresh and make people forget about her first paragraph in Wikipedia.  GroupMe, a popular messaging platform for iPhone, Android, and Blackberry,  now has Paris Hilton as a spokesperson.

The Oxygen Network’s new show “The World According to Paris” will soon start promoting tiny start-up GroupMe with an on-air TV spot to encourage private viewer conversations using the group texting service.

Getting a plug from Paris Hilton may not have the same appeal it once did, but it’s a nice coup for year-old GroupMe.

What GroupMe offers is private fan chat rooms, which for many viewers are preferable to the huge public live chats Oxygen hosts on its Web site, said Rose Curtis, Oxygen’s editorial director for digital and new media. GroupMe is accessible from any mobile phone that texts, so it’s a good fit for shows with younger audiences, Curtis said.

It’s a good fit for young audiences.  There’s no problem associating eye candy with a group texting application right? Hopefully it doesn’t give NFL players any ideas while they wait to play a football season.  GroupMe could take sexting to a whole new level.

It’s not GroupMe’s fault,  but any kind of attention can start a new revolution.  Battery life and exposure are two things they’ll have to keep an eye on.  Last time I used GroupMe,  it’s a big drain on the iPhone’s battery.  The best and most balanced application is still Kik in my opinion.
