Eric Schmidt to Apple: You’re Jealous and Lack Innovation

Google’s executive chairman Eric Schmidt starts a word war with Apple, feeling the pressure of ongoing lawsuits filed against Google and Android device manufacturers.  Schmidt believes that Apple’s turning green in color.  Jealous of Android’s domination? It must be a lack of innovation on Apple’s part, leading the iOS provider to launch a string of infringement suits against Google.  Google is ready to face the fire, as they firmly believe that they haven’t done anything wrong.

“We have seen an explosion of Android devices entering the market and, because of our successes, competitors are responding with lawsuits as they cannot respond through innovations,” said Schmidt. “I’m not too worried about this.”

HTC uses Google Android OS in its units, making it a prime target for Apple, Microsoft and even Oracle.  Since HTC is battling Apple, Google opted to help its early partner–the two companies faced dual benefits in their joint launch of the first Android device.  It is not yet clear how Google will help HTC in the battle but one thing’s for sure, Google will try everything to keep HTC from losing everything it’s worked towards in the past three years.

So with Apple going for companies using the Android OS, should we expect that Google will also come to the rescue of Samsung, Motorola and Sony Ericsson?  And if Apple thinks that every OS produced is an infringement of their own OS, why don’t they just make their iOS available to all?  At least they can charge these companies for using their iOS instead of spending so much time in court.  Maybe Schmidt is right.  Apple can’t come up with something new, so to mask their shortcomings, they just keep filing infringement cases, a tactic that’s spread across the mobile industry in a seemingly joint effort to keep Android down.
