Well, it looks like the first step of LulzSec’s catch-me-if-you-can may be coming to a head with the announcement by the London Metropolitan Police who say that they’ve captured the hacker “Topiary.” The announcement mentions the arrest of a 19-year-old man in an intelligence led operation and his transport to a police station in central London.
He was arrested at a Shetland Islands address and the police are currently searching that address—more than likely confiscating the young man’s computer equipment.
Additionally, they report that a second 17-year-old male is being questioned in connection with the suspect, and hisLincolnshirehouse is being searched but he’s not under arrest.
“Today’s operation is linked to PCeU’s ongoing investigation into network intrusions and Distributed Denial of Service (DDoS) attacks against a number of international business and intelligence agencies by what is believed to be the same hacking group,” the announcement reads. “It was carried out with the assistance of the Scottish Crime and Drug Enforcement Agency (SCDEA) and Lincolnshire Constabulary.”
While it’s unknown exactly who runs the LulzSec Twitter account nowadays, the last tweet hit the web over six hours ago.
This story is still developing. Stay tuned.
