HP TouchPad Update Falls Flat, but Shows Dedication to Tablet Market

A month after its release, HP’s TouchPad has been getting bad reviews.  And now, to appease the angry mob, they have launched the webOS 3.02.68, an update to its current software.  But is it enough to survive in a highly competitive market?

“We’re focused on ensuring an excellent experience on TouchPad, and we’re addressing as much of the early performance feedback as possible to deliver the experience customers expect. While we haven’t given a specific time of when the OTA will occur, customers can expect it shortly,” said Sara Coughlin, an HP spokeswoman.

Unfortunately, the update didn’t do much to boost webOS’s reputation at all.  The TouchPad is known to perform very slow, and the update was expected to make it run faster, which it does, but only on select applications.  The most noticeable change is that you are now able to manage multiple messages at the same time in the Drafts and Outbox folders.

If you’re a TouchPad user, the update is still a breath of fresh air, demonstrating HP’s dedication to improving its mobile software.  Though the features are not perfect, at least it’s been readily upgraded, promising to perform a little better than it did before.  And HP’s hoping to incentivize buyers in another way, slashed off $50 from its tablet price. But webOS still has a heady rival with Apple’s recently launched iOS 5, and even Android’s struggling to keep up, with Android OS 4.0 ‘Ice Cream Sandwich’ soon to launch.
