HTC Preps 8 New Handsets as Apple War Lands in UK

Apple is really popular, especially in courtrooms.  After reaching an agreement with Samsung regarding the patent infringement case, Samsung agreed to postpone release of their Galaxy Tab 10.1 in Australia and Apple agreed to pay for damages if Apple loses, but Apple is still under retaliatory fire.

HTC vowed to appeal their case after the court sided with Apple, stating that HTC infringed two of Apple’s patents.  HTC then bought S3 Graphics for $300 million in cash from VIA Technologies Inc. and WTI Investment International Inc. due to the fact that HTC believes that Apple is using some of S3’s patents illegally.

Now, HTC filed against Apple in UK court, but it is not clear yet what the scope of the litigation is.

“We are highly confident we have a strong case for the ITC appeals process and are fully prepared to defend ourselves using all means possible,” said Grace Lei, general counsel of HTC.

“We strongly believe we have alternate solutions in place for the issues raised by Apple. We look forward to resolving this case, so we can continue creating the most innovative mobile experiences for consumers.”

Aside from the above statements made by HTC, no other statements were made.  Apple has not made any comments regarding the issue yet.

It’s a global war that’s incurring here, with Apple and Android handset makers at the center of the brawl.  And things will likely get more complicated once the fall season hits, as a slew of new devices is expected to hit the market as students head back to school, and the holiday shopping season approaches.  Apple’s iPhone 5 is a highly rumored launch for September or October, while HTC has eight new devices planned for this autumn.
