Yahoo! Free E-mail Outage and other Unfortunate Events in the Cloud

Do you still remember what happened September last year on Facebook when it shut down shut operation for 2.5 hours to prevent data loss?  What about last April when Amazon’s AWS services including the Amazon Elastic Compute Cloud and Amazon Relational Database service experienced some technical difficulties that caused API errors, volume latencies and delayed launches for EBS backed EC2 instances?  And could you forget what happened to Sony PlayStation Network, when they got hacked a couple of times and when Jack Tretton, Sony’s President and CEO, made public his thoughts regarding the downtime?  I bet some of you don’t even know what I’m pertaining to but everything stated above have already occurred and has occurred again.

Yahoo! e-mail users experienced problems with their accounts today as some were not able to log into their accounts as the site stated that they are having some technical difficulties and they apologized for their inconvenience.

“Some Yahoo services are currently inaccessible to some users in certain locations,” the company told CNET in an e-mailed statement. “We are working to correct the issue and restore all functionality immediately. We know that this may have caused some inconvenience and we apologize to our users who might be affected.”

After a few hours of ranting from the general public, Yahoo finally took notice of them and realized that need to do something about this before an angry mob comes after them.

Yahoo! stated on their Twitter account that:  “We are working to correct the issue and restore all functionality immediately. We know that this may have caused some inconvenience and we apologize to our users who might be affected.”

Some users experience hell for over 12 hours or more and some experience it until now so Yahoo! Tweeted: Having trouble with your Yahoo Mail account? Here are some troubleshooting recommendations here which navigates you out of Twitter and you end up reading troubleshooting recommendations.  The action made by Twitter wasn’t that great but formidable and the reason for this mishap is still not that clear so it’s hard to tell if this may be caused by hackers or the surge of online users.  Whatever it is, some users are just happy to have Yahoo! back, period.
