BI Provider GoodData Raises $15M from Andreessen-Horowitz

SaaS startup GoodData has raised $15 million in a second round of funding, led by none other than Andreessen-Horowitz, along with other investors, Windcrest Partners, Fidelity Growth Partners and General Catalyst Partners. GoodData has now raised $28.5 million overall for its cloud-based business intelligence product.

GoodData’s SaaS application runs business intelligence as a service across companies’ applications. Currently the company is providing custom business analytics services to 20 popular cloud services including Facebook, Salesforce.com, Get Satisfaction, Twillio, Zendesk and Pardot.  GoodData will use the funding to add another 30 applications by the end of this year, increasing its product portfolio significantly.

GoodData’s data intelligence products are currently run by over 2,500 companies including Capgemini, Pandora Media, Software AG, Enterasys Networks and Time Warner Cable.  The company executed more than 2 million reports on its business intelligence platform in month of July itself.

John O’Farrell, an investor from Andreessen Horowitz, is bullish on cloud computing and business intelligence products provided by GoodData.  The President of Google Enterprise, Dave Girouard, who joined as a new members to the board of directors of GoodData said, “GoodData has an amazing opportunity to build a huge business. Cloud computing and analytics is a killer combination, and GoodData has taken a unique and promising approach to leading in this market.”

GoodData offers one of the world’s most powerful Cloud BI Platform solutions, and to strengthen its position, the company has announced a partnership with SiriusDecisions to collect and aggregate historical sales pipeline data from companies as part of the Pipeline Genome Project.  As a part of the project initiative, GoodData will capture historical sales pipeline data from thousands of companies along with SiriusDecisions core B2B sales and marketing expertise.

Jim Ninivaggi, Research Analyst at SiriusDecisions, said as part of the partnership program, “Every sales executive wants sales pipeline benchmark data, but to date, it’s been very difficult to gather. Crowdsourcing data collection, as we are doing with GoodData, can crack the code and enable us to give our clients richer and deeper benchmark data.”

SAP,  another big player in business intelligence space, introduced three new related products recently. Crystal Server 2011 and Business Objects Edge 4.0 two of the products are designed for small- to medium-sized companies. Object Edge 4.0 offers Web Intelligence, mobile BI, and Oracle-E Business integration to provide enterprise level analytics solution. SAP’s third installment, Edge 4.0, offers data-integration tooling.

Google last month teamed up with SAP to bring business analytics software and location-based visualized geographical data through Google’s dynamic, interactive map, satellite and street-level views. And HP is not too far behind in the race. HP yesterday set out an update to its Discovery and Dependency Mapping Advanced Edition (DDMA) dependency mapping software to more easily track systems, applications and processes.

There’s lots of buzz these days around cloud computing and business intelligence offering by companies. And many large scale companies are now using big data and BI solution as part of their business growth to outperform their competitors.
