Weekly App Round Up: MobileIron to Splashtop

Both the iPad and Android Honeycomb are gaining traction among business users as the trend towards smarter tablets becomes more and more powerful in the consumer space, and developers are quick to follow with new applications. We’ve rounded up five tablet business apps this week too, looking into what’s going on in the mobile enterprise:

iPad

MobileIron Sentry

MobileIron is an interesting one, and the first one that enters out list. It allows an admin to monitor the devices connected to their ActiveSync system. The administrator can track phones by OS and login time, block comprised devices, remotely wipe a handset in case it is lost stolen, and more.

Server Admin Remote

Server Admin Remote is for server administrators looking to control Mac OS X Server from their iPad. Support for Lion, the newly launched latest version of the OS, will be added soon. Users can connect via  WiFi, 3G or EDGE, view logs and start/stop services.

1Password

1Password for iPad is the tablet version of the popular business-oriented password manager and data storage app. A password generator plus an auto lock option allows the user to make sure no passwords or credit card numbers will be lost in case his or her iPad goes missing. The app also comes with backup & recovery, and a notes tab.

Android

Balance Book – Profit Tracker

Profit Tracker is a slim SMB bookkeeping app that provides access to a price and loan calculator along with a regular one, support for 26 currencies, and the ability to take receipt snapshot. Profit Tracker also syncs with the DropBox and Google Apps applications, similar to a number of other services.

Splashtop

Splashtop is a 3G desktop connector. IT supports both Windows and Mac, and has been getting a lot of positive reviews for delivering a smooth experience. This is not that common in this space, considering graphics, audio and performance can lag a lot in some cases.
