Research In Motion shares rose 74 cents, or 2.6 percent, to $28.22 in premarket trading Friday, which could possibly be associated to news of an upcoming lineup of smartphones running its new software QNX, and thee recent launch of their BlackBerry Music service.  Though shares may have risen, it doesn’t mean that everyone has gone gaga over the service.  Most are still thinking that this will flop as the service price is a bit steep at $4.99 a month for music streaming with lots of restrictions.

RIM is not about to give up in the mobile race, as it will soon pull another surprise from under the table. Unnamed sources leaked information that future BlackBerrys running the operating software QNX will be able to support Android apps.

Back in February, rumors of RIM making the Playbook compatible for Android apps were confirmed by CEO Mike Lazaridis and software maker Myriad showcased their Alien Dalvik software that allows Android apps to run on other platforms at the Mobile World Congress.

This will allow BlackBerry users access to Android’s more than 250,000 applications as BB users aren’t really happy with the selection in App World.  Also, this will eliminate the need for app developers to make apps that only run on BlackBerrys, centralizing efforts around the Android platform.  But this could also cause some problems as Android is being attacked not only by malwares but also companies who plans to bring them down.

According to one of the unnamed sources, the Android app player will not be available as an upgrade to avoid getting criticisms as they have been known for rolling out updates at a snail’s pace.  The app player will come pre-installed in BlackBerry devices running the QNX OS that will be released next year.

RIM is said to be planning on releasing an update on their Playbook by September that will add a dedicated e-mail and BBM application.

RIM is hard at work to come up with new solutions to make up for their one year hiatus.  It’s still quite early to say if BBM Music will do them any good but the Android app player could be beneficial.
