The Effects Of Mobile on Other Markets, from Batteries to Ads
Flurry, the company that increases the size and value of mobile application audiences, released their latest findings in the growth of mobile apps. The mobile app market is aggressively expanding that they believe it can accommodate the demand of a mature internet market in as little as six months.
Flurry states that the “U.S. app inventory is not only growing at a staggering rate, but also poised to absorb the equivalent of the entire U.S. Internet display advertising spend by the end of this year.”
According to Flurry, there are four key factors that contribute to the rapid growth of the mobile market: 1) There is a massive increase in smartphone usage and there are over a million smartphones activated every day; 2) A massive number of app publishers are in existence; 3) More users spend more time using apps compared to using the web; and 4) More publishers are integrating ads in their apps.
Based on a recent demographic study, males and females between the ages of 18 to 24 are the ones that use mobile apps extensively. With this in mind, app developers are tapping into the age bracket’s tendency to be easily influenced by the media, hence the increase in ads in apps.
PlayHaven, the company that specializes in free, real-time promotion and monetization platform for mobile games, launched a new platform for iOS that gives mobile game developers the ability to react quickly to their shifting needs as they arise. The platform utilizes customizable HTML5 overlay windows that can appear at various moments in a mobile game app. Developers install the PlayHaven SDK in their app, and this one-time installation allows them to make changes without having to wait for Apple to review or update the changes. This platform provides flexibility for developers as well as the ability to engage and monetize in real-time. The PlayHaven SDK also allow developers to reward their users, announce updates or inform users if they using an outdated version of the app and they can also promote new games or apps about to launch.
And with the growth of app and mobile device usage, there’s another industry that benefits from this: the stationary lead acid battery market. SLA batteries were traditionally used as a source for backup power for industries that need continuous supply of energy like telecommunications, data communications and uninterruptible power supply (UPS) industries, security, emergency, utility, broadcasting and transportation markets, as well as those involved with energy production, mining and exploration. But with the growth of mobile devices, SLAs are now being utilized by complex and power hungry networks which support the functioning of mobile devices are incorporating microprocessors into their systems as well as investing heavily in infrastructure expansion programmes to cope with the ever-increasing demand of the competitive marketplace.
