DataDirect Networks Brings Fusion Tech to Big Data Storage

Big data storage company DataDirect Networks announced Storage Fusion Architecture (SFA) 10K-X today, a new storage appliance.  It aims to deliver higher RoI by reducing costs of ownership, while also sticking with its existing approach of optimizing its solutions for big data and cloud deployments.

“”The DDN SFA10K-X is a high- performance, scalable solution that will meet the needs of today’s and tomorrow’s data-intensive organizations,” said Alex Bouzari, CEO and cofounder, DataDirect Networks.”

SFA19K-K is built for SAN, NAS and parallel file system applications, and integrates with DataDirect’s NAS Scaler, ExaScaler and GridScaler file storage offerings.  It features a read-write speed around 15GB/sec, uses SDD to deliver 849K+ I/Os per second and supports up to 1200 drives in one system.  Lastly, DDN’s new appliance comes with 1.8 petabytes of storage as well as support for VMware ESX.

Indeed, DataDirect Networks has been busy lately. Also today, the company expanded its partnerbase.  March Networks said that it has integrated its Command video management platform with DDN storage appliances that now allow its software to scale, and handle petabytes worth of video content.

Not too long ago the storage firm hired ex-Hewlett-Packard exec Erwan Menard as its new chief operating officer, a position that was created just for him. Previously he served as VP and GM of HP’s Communications and Media Solutions business.  Earlier, DDN stated that its technology is used to power more than half the 50 fastest storage solutions out there. This is a pretty major milestone, which also indicates it has been on the right course for quite some time now.

DDN has been keeping a steady pace when it comes to releasing new products.  NAS Scaler was introduced a few months ago – a file storage platform with the lowest cost of ownership in the industry, according to the company.
