Samsung Galaxy S II Family Expands to AT&T

AT&T announced through their Twitter account that the Galaxy S II will be available by October 2.  It’s a perk for AT&T as the Samsung Galaxy devices have been doing quite well in the market, helping to bring the manufacturer to the front and center of Android’s world of devices.  This second generation of Galaxy phones appears in the US market amidst a turbulent time for Samsung, which is fighting lawsuits in several countries as Apple looks to limit its device sales.

“The Galaxy S II will be available starting October 2 for $199.99 w/2-yr contract! Min. $15/month data plan req’d.http://social.att.com/M4n@ATT

So here’s the deal, you can opt to get the Galaxy SII for $199.99 but you’d have to be married to AT&T for two years, plus you’d have to get a minimum of $15/month data plan. Or you can just purchase the device for $549.99 with no strings attached.

The thing is, it was supposed to launch weeks ago, and Sprint customers already have access to the Samsung Galaxy S II Epic 4G, so what could have caused the delay at AT&T?  It’s possible that they timed it for the iPhone 5 launch on October 4.

If you’re asking why you would possibly choose the Galaxy SII over the iPhone 5, well Australians are saying that the iPhone 5 can’t compare to the Galaxy SII.

“We consumers in the Australian Market have had access to this phone for a few months now and it is definitely miles ahead of the iPhone 4”, Ishraque Siddiqui writes. “I can sympathize with you US folks. I suppose one way to look at it is it will be well worth the wait”.

And Canadian’s aren’t left out in the dark as the Galaxy SII will be available on Bell starting September 23 for only $24.99.  Yes, you read that right, $145 less than what AT&T offers.  But there’s a catch, “one must be willing to sell his/her soul to Bell for 36 months.”
