QLogic Appoints New VP of Marketing

Networking solutions maker QLogic announced a pretty significant executive level change today.  Chris Humphrey is now vice president of corporate marketing, effective immediately. He will be responsible for promoting his company’s products throughout the entire world.

Humphrey comes to QLogic from Honeywell Life Safety, where he served as vice president and general manager for a “global strategic business unit.”  He has about 16 years of experience serving in executive marketing and management roles at companies including Lantronix, Applied Micro Circuits, Tyco Fire & Security and Teledyne.

Simon Biddiscombe, president and chief exec of the company, described Humphrey’s role in a released statement:

“Chris will articulate and promote QLogic’s vision and lead integrated corporate marketing efforts that will continue to build awareness of QLogic(R) products and solutions in the global marketplace, in addition to overseeing public relations, advertising, industry events, Web communications and social media initiatives.”

QLogic needs good managed to press on with its growth strategy.  CTO Rob Davis talked a bit about this during his visit in TheCube at Oracle OpenWorld 2011.  Davis also discussed QLogic’s growing product line, comparing Ethernet with InfiniBand in terms of performance, an area where the company prevails, but also noted that Ethernet is currently  the more dominant offering on the market.  As a follow-up he said that QLogic is developing its angle around mixing in Ethernet, InfiniBand and Fibre Channel in their OEM offering so it can be used in a pretty broad range of deployments.

QLogic had some pretty big updates recently.  The company upgraded its FlexSuite and Adaptive Convergence line-ups by adding support for 16Gb converged fibre channel and 10Gb Ethernet, as well as new switches.  The firm also has big plans for the future, and CEO Simon Biddiscombe said in a conversation with Stifel Nicolaus analyst  that his company may consider getting into the PCIe business.
