Mango Debuts in India as Microsoft Lures More Android, iOS Developers
Microsoft Corporation India finally launched its first Windows Phone 7.5 ,or Mango, in India this week. Major smartphone handset provider, HTC, is the first to usher in this change with the launch of their new handset, the Radar.
The device gets a boost with 8GB internal memory, 3.8-inch WVGA SLCD display and 1GHz processor. The Radar features the latest rich and dynamic UI. For photos and videos capture, the smartphone has a 5MP camera and Xenon flash. HTC added DLNA support and a front facing VGA camera.

With Windows Phone, we have looked at the consumer experience in an absolutely fresh way, and the end result is an operating system that is stylish, innovative and one that seamlessly integrates the most sought after user experiences such as search, gaming, email and social networks across Bing, Office, Xbox Live, Facebook, Twitter and more,” said Mr. Bhaskar Pramanik, Chairman, Microsoft India during the launch.
Nokia, Acer and Samsung are other companies that have partnered with Microsoft on the mobile end, and will soon will launch their versions of Windows Phone in the coming weeks.
The dominance of Android and iOS is now being challenged by the Microsoft Windows Phone platform after it got some much needed good reviews from mobile experts. Google’s acquisition of Motorola Mobility can also be considered another cause for mobile companies recent diversification, looking to Microsoft as an option beyond Android. Not to mention, Microsoft’s been putting a great deal of energy into luring developers away from competing OSs.
Microsoft and Nokia are hoping for a big mobile comeback, hanging their hopes on Nokia’s Windows phone, which is expected to showcase at the Nokia World conference on Oct. 26, and start shipping at least one product before the end of the year. In an effort to encourage the use of apps for Windows Phone, Nokia and Microsoft are now offering porting applications to Windows Phone using Windows Phone API mapping tool.
The mapping tool is a utility for developers that serves as a translation dictionary between the Windows Phone platform and other mobile operating systems, and helps developers port applications from Apple’s iOS and Google’s Android.
