Online Jobs Spike in Q3: Animators, Mobile Apps Developers, and Content Writers Wanted!

Freelancing online jobs are perhaps the best alternatives that could alleviate the lack in formal employment as a consequence of weak economic health. This is an avenue that many skilled talents have explored for added income or become the primary source of making a living. The boom of social networking and Facebook is just one of the many elements that influenced the growth of online jobs and crowdsourcing. Freelancer.com identifies trends in online jobs, particularly the percent increase which saw familiar names like Google, HTML5 and Facebook at the top 10 out of the 50 total.

Freelancer.com Chief Matt Barrie briefly interprets the content of the chart and what do the sets of data tell us:  “The Fast 50 is a sophisticated indicator of the global online economy. These quarterly reports reflect the fortunes of companies such as Facebook, Apple, Microsoft and Google, and we can dig deeper, beyond companies, to identify trends in the ascendancy and those in decline.”

He then mentioned some of the factors responsible for the augmentation of number of jobs posted from 104,000 in Q2 to 114,000 in Q3, “Projects are up nearly 10% compared to the second quarter. The diversity of the project categories represented, and quality of work delivered, continues to improve in leaps and bounds.”

Facebook Vs Google+ = More Online Jobs

There are several benefits that this Facebook vs Google+ chapter could bring humanity, and providing jobs is one. Social networking and Facebook, which ranked 6th and 8th respectively have seen major updates before the third quarter of 2011 ended and in effect boosted the need for more geniuses to partake in the upcoming social projects. Perhaps the biggest noise maker in the social platform of the past month was when Mark Zuckerberg presented promising updates in Facebook during the f8 conference: Timeline and Open Graph. To add to this, is the world’s favourite social networking site’s integration with equally engaging apps like Hulu, Netflix, Spotify and online newspaper and magazines. Not to mention the much anticipated entrée of Facebook in the IPO jungle next year. Seems like Google+ has a lot of homework to do.

Animation and 3D Modelling Demand Up

With digital media technology becoming more and more sophisticated these days as entertainment warrants for better audience experience, animation and 3D modelling online jobs boom. Recording a 64% increase from the past quarter, collective 3D freelancing works grabbed the second place with nearly a thousand jobs added in their roster.

The Return of Content and Adsense Rise

Following a massive decline in May following the Google Panda update, content bounces back in previous quarter as evident by the double digit percentage increase in demands for bloggers, ghostwriters and product review writers. Adsense, together with product description became two of the highest leapers as they placed 1st and 4th individually.

Mobile Apps Development Steady Growth with Apple Products Emergence

While mobile apps developer demands jumped by only 8%, significantly lower than in second quarter of the year, iPhone projects sustained the growth rate. Expect that figures for Steve Jobs’ masterpiece company will continue to shoot up with the phenomenal unit sales of iPhone 4s. Android also enjoys a relatively winning form, unfortunately at the expense of Symbian phones. RIM Blackberry’s numbers are also feeling ill even before the outage, because of public’s show of disinterest in PlayBook.

Other winners include Cocoa, HTML5, Web scraping, Objective C and CSS—all of which recorded more than 20% growth rate from previous quarter. Familiar faces at the top however that lost quite significant number of online job demands include MySQL, Java and the across the board decline in Microsoft array (Access, .NET, Windows Mobile and Exchange).
